Saudi Arabia, having a population of 25 million, accounts for approximately 45% of IT spending in the GCC. In 2006 the Kingdom's annual sale of personal computers and software reached $ 1 billion (source: Nooz Research). The Middle East Economic Digest (Meed) recently published current and projected usage of Telecoms & IT as a percentage of the population of Saudi Arabia. - Mobile penetration increasing from 75% in 2006 to 106% in 2011.
- Fixed line penetration changing from 16% in 2006 to 21% in 2011.
- Broad bond penetration from 1% in 2006 to 6% in 2011.
- Household PC penetration from 17% in 2006 to 27% in 2011.
Currently the Kingdom has (3) mobile phone license holders and recently issued (3) new fixed line telephone licenses to share the market with the state-owned Saudi Telecom Company. This is part of the liberalization of the Kingdom's telecommunications sector.
